"In the Garden of Gethsemane, all the disciples fell asleep, but Jesus went a short distance away from them and prayed with his face to the ground."
All the sins of humanity were laid upon Jesus. God presented Jesus with a cup filled with the sins of humanity, from Adam to the very last person. If Jesus had not drunk this cup on behalf of humanity, there would have been no hope of salvation for humanity, which was burdened with the debt of sin. When He considered that He would have to bear all the sins of humanity, Jesus, who was without spot or blemish, could not help but shudder.
"Unable to bear the agony, Jesus cried out to God in prayer: 'My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.'"
"Jesus repeated this prayer. When He prayed for the third time, His sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground."

삶의 분명한 목표를 가져라
“내 아버지여 만일 할 만하시거든 이 잔을 내게서 지나가게 하옵소서 그러나 나의 원대로 마시옵고 아버지의 원대로 하옵소서” (마태복음 26:39)
겟세마네 동산에서 제자들은 모두 잠이 들었지만, 예수님께서는 제자들과 조금 떨어져서 얼굴을 땅에 대고 기도하셨습니다.
인류의 모든 죄가 다 예수님께로 몰려왔습니다. 하나님께서는 아담에서부터 마지막 인류의 죄악으로 가득 찬 잔을 예수님 앞에 내놓으셨습니다. 예수님께서 인류를 대신하여 이 잔을 마시지 않으시면 죄의 빚을 진 인류는 구원 받을 가망이 없었습니다. 인류의 모든 죄를 다 짊어질 것을 생각하면 점도 없고 흠도 없으신 예수님께서는 몸서리를 치지 않을 수 없었습니다.
예수님께서는 고통을 견딜 수 없어서 하나님께 부르짖어 기도하였습니다.
“내 아버지여 만일 할 만하시거든 이 잔을 내게 서 지나가게 하옵소서. 그러나 나의 원대로 마시옵고 아버지의 원대로 하옵소서”.예수님께서는
이와 같은 기도를 되풀이하셨습니다.
세 번째 같은 기도를 할 때, 예수님의 땀방울은 핏방울로 변하여 땅에 떨어졌습니다.겟세마네 동산에서
“나의 원대로 마시옵고 아버지의 원대로 하옵소서.”라는 기도를 하시면서 흘리신 예수님의 피는
주님의 의지를 깨뜨리시고 하나님께 순종함을 나타내시는 것이었습니다.
이러므로 겟세마네 동산에서
흘리신 피는 우리의 의지를 깨뜨립니다. 우리가 하나님 뜻대로 살지 않고 인간의 뜻대로 살려고 할 때, 우리의 마음을 바로잡아서 자기 뜻을 굽히고 하나님의 뜻대로 살 수 있게 하는 위대한 힘이 예수님의 흘리신 보혈 속에 있는 것입니다. 그러므로 우리가
“내 뜻대로 마옵시고 아버지의 뜻대로 하옵소서. 겟세마네 동산에서 흘리신 주님의 보혈을 믿습니다.”라고 기도할 때,
예수님의 피가 성령을 통하여 우리의 고집을 꺾어 하나님의 뜻에 순복하도록 해 주십니다.
하나님께서는
“순종이 제사보다 낫고” (사무엘상 15:22)라고 말씀하셨습니다.
우리가 겟세마네 동산에서 흘리신 예수님의 피를 믿고 의지하면 우리 자신을 이기고 하나님께 순종할 수 있는 새로운 권세와 능력을 얻게 되는 것입니다. 이 말씀의 은총과 복이 풍성하시기를 기도드립니다.
